(Esperanza Spalding performing at the Newport Jazz Festival 2008. This might have been my favorite Newport Jazz Festival performance ever. esperanza spalding is amazingly talented.. she sings, she plays upright bass, she dances.. and no, it's not just the "girl bass player" thing (but i'm sure that factors into it). She just plays her ass off. and she seems to do it with this limitless supply of energy and delight. Yet another album I picked up when I got home, 10 August 2008)
