GIGANTICKÁ Fotografie + English: Croatia-00489 - Zagreb Cathedral Entrance (Taken on June 4, 2013, Sony NEX-7)

  • Zagreb Cathedral is the most famous and tallest building in Zagreb. The Cathedral of the Assumption of Virgin Mary and St. Stephen with its bell towers (104 and 105 m high) (341 and 344 ft)can be seen from many locations in the city. It is also the tallest building in Croatia.

Started in the 11th century (1093), that building was destroyed during the invasion of the Tatars in 1242. The current structure was built in the later half of the 13th Century, many alterations and renovations have changed the structure almost completely.

In 1880, the cathedral was severely damaged in an earthquake and then restored to what we see today.
